Arsenal sign England international Konsa
Arsenal, the reigning Premier League champions, have completed the signing of England defender Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa. The deal is valued at a reported £51m, with another report indicating a fee of £55m, and could include an additional £4m in add-ons for Villa. Konsa has agreed to a long-term contract with the Gunners, which includes an option to extend for a further year.
The 28-year-old defender’s arrival provides a significant boost for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta as the club prepares to defend its Premier League title. Konsa is expected to be presented to Arsenal fans before their opening match against Coventry at the Emirates Stadium on Friday.

Konsa’s departure marks another significant exit for Aston Villa this summer, as the club has seen several key players leave. These player sales come amidst Aston Villa‘s efforts to comply with financial regulations, including UEFA‘s squad cost ratio (SCR) and the Premier League‘s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). The SCR limits clubs to spending 70% of their football-related revenue on player and staff wages, transfer fees, and agent fees. Villa has faced fines from UEFA for breaches in the past, including a £9.5m sanction last year and a £19.4m fine in June, though a portion of the latter was suspended.
The PSR limits financial losses to a maximum of £105m over a rolling three-year period. In their latest accounts, ending June 30, 2025, Villa reported a post-tax profit of £17m, following losses of £119.6m in 2023 and £85.4m in 2024. The regulations have since been replaced by SCR, aligning the Premier League with UEFA‘s model.
Arsenal has also been active in the transfer market this window, having already spent over £100m. Their acquisitions include midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle for £75m and winger Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for £34m. Additionally, Piero Hincapie‘s loan deal was made permanent from Bayer Leverkusen, and goalkeeper Illan Meslier joined on a free transfer from Leeds. Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez is also reportedly a target for Arsenal.
Konsa’s first match day with Arsenal is expected to be Friday’s clash with Coventry.
