Tottenham secures Fernandes, eyes Tonali
Tottenham Hotspur has reportedly secured the signing of West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes in a club-record deal valued at £85m. This move comes after Spurs reportedly beat Manchester United in the race for the Portuguese midfielder. Fernandes is expected to undergo a medical this week, with personal terms not anticipated to be an issue. His agent, Jorge Mendes, was reportedly in negotiations with both clubs, but Spurs‘ financial offer is said to have sealed the deal.
Following the acquisition of Fernandes, Tottenham is now reportedly looking to further strengthen their squad by pursuing Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali. Reports suggest that Tonali could command a fee of around £100m. This potential move would mark a significant investment for the North London club, which has recently received a cash injection from its owners, the Lewis family. Spurs have already made several other signings, including Netherlands centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke for £52m, and free transfers for Andy Robertson, Martin Dubravka, and Marcos Senesi. Additionally, Antonin Kinsky has signed a new five-year contract, which implies that former number one Guglielmo Vicario may be available for transfer.
In attack, Tottenham is also rumoured to be considering Manchester City winger Savinho. Meanwhile, former Tottenham loanee Randal Kolo Muani, who scored five goals for Spurs last season on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, is not expected to return to the club. Italian press reports indicate that the France international is in talks with Juventus, where he was on loan from January to May 2025, scoring 10 goals in 22 games.
Arsenal and Manchester United eye midfield and wing options
Arsenal continues to seek reinforcements for their squad, with Morgan Rogers of Aston Villa identified as a priority target. However, Aston Villa reportedly values Rogers at around £130m. As an alternative, Arsenal is considering Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, who has reportedly been scouted by the club. Barcola was reportedly watched by Gunners scouts during France‘s victory over Sweden at the World Cup. A second bid for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is also anticipated from Arsenal, though no official bid or enquiry has yet been made to St James’ Park.
In other transfer news for Arsenal, winger Leandro Trossard has attracted interest from Turkey. Besiktas has reportedly submitted a £17m bid for the Belgium international, who arrived at Arsenal in 2023 from Brighton for £20.6m. Trossard has scored 36 goals and provided 34 assists in 174 games across all competitions for Arsenal. He is currently representing Belgium at the World Cup, where he has scored two goals in three games, with Belgium set to face Senegal in the round of 32.
After missing out on Mateus Fernandes, Manchester United has reportedly shifted its focus to other targets, including Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott and Borussia Dortmund‘s Felix Nmecha. Michael Carrick reportedly views Scott as a strong alternative, although Bournemouth is said to be determined to retain the England youngster and could demand around £80m. Former Manchester City player Nmecha is reportedly open to a return to the Premier League, and Manchester United hopes to negotiate a lower asking price with Dortmund. Additionally, Manchester United has identified Crysencio Summerville as a leading target for a new left-winger.
Chelsea pursues defensive and midfield additions
Chelsea remains active in the transfer market, reportedly determined to sign Granit Xhaka from Sunderland despite an initial £8m bid being rejected. Sunderland is reportedly unwilling to consider selling Xhaka, viewing him as untouchable. Chelsea is also negotiating for Maxence Lacroix and is reportedly close to finalising deals for Marco Palestra and Pep Chavarria. Club-to-club talks are ongoing with Rayo Vallecano regarding left-back Pep Chavarria. The club also made an €80million bid for Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi, but the offer was rejected, as Barcelona considers him unsellable.
Meanwhile, Liverpool, having missed out on Yan Diomande who is set to join Paris Saint-Germain, is also interested in Bradley Barcola. Federico Chiesa has reportedly been informed that he needs to find a new club. In other news, Bayern Munich‘s president, Herber Hainer, has reiterated that Michael Olise is not for sale, despite rumours of interest from Real Madrid. PSG‘s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is considered an alternative, but a similar asking price is expected.
Manchester City is reportedly interested in Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, who has also attracted interest from Arsenal. City reportedly hopes to sign the 18-year-old this summer and then loan him back to Lille for the season, an idea Lille is said to be open to. Everton is reportedly pushing to sign Chelsea striker Liam Delap on a permanent deal and is also close to securing the signature of Chelsea midfielder Arthur Barratt.
