Bank holiday weather forecast: UK : A Shift to Stormy Skies

bank holiday weather forecast — GB news

The UK is set to experience a significant shift from warm weather to heavy rain and thunderstorms over the upcoming bank holiday weekend. Temperatures are expected to peak at 25°C in eastern England on Saturday, only to plunge below 20°C by Monday.

According to the Met Office, Saturday evening will herald widespread and heavy downpours across much of England and Wales. Greg Dewhurst noted, “Temperatures are starting to come down but in the sunnier moments it is still above average for the time of year.”

This weekend’s weather marks a stark contrast to the pleasant conditions experienced earlier in the week. The warmest day will be Saturday, with temperatures possibly reaching 25°C in parts of the East Midlands, while southern areas brace for showers as rain sweeps in from the morning.

Key forecasts:

  • Temperatures expected to fall below 20°C across the country by Monday.
  • Heavy downpours with thunderstorms anticipated throughout the bank holiday weekend.
  • Northern areas may stay largely dry while southern regions face persistent showers.

On Monday, lingering clouds and scattered showers will linger across southern and central areas, with northern Scotland forecasted to see temperatures in the low teens. Grahame Madge warned, “On Saturday, we’ve got the prospect of some quite heavy, thundery showers coming…into parts of southern England.”

As always in the UK, one can expect a bit of rain during a bank holiday. Dan Harris added that rain would reach southern England during Saturday morning, spreading north into much of England and Wales later in the day. The risk of thunderstorms adds an element of unpredictability to this weekend’s plans.
