Beyond his television work, Carragher also makes frequent appearances on the ‘Stick To Football’ podcast and YouTube show. This show is part of ‘The Overlap’ media business, owned by his former Manchester United rival and fellow pundit, Gary Neville. Other former players like Roy Keane, Ian Wright, and Jill Scott are also fixtures on the programme.
HMRC typically views a bankruptcy petition as a measure of last resort for recovering funds. A spokesperson for HMRC stated that the department adopts a supportive approach when dealing with customers who have tax debts, offering options such as instalment plans to help individuals manage their financial obligations. The spokesperson added that bankruptcy petitions are only pursued when other avenues have been exhausted.
Sources with knowledge of the situation anticipate a swift resolution to the matter. HMRC maintains a policy of not commenting on individual cases due to taxpayer confidentiality laws, but provided a general statement regarding its procedures for debt recovery.
Carragher’s career transition and business interests
Before his career in media, Jamie Carragher had a distinguished playing career with Liverpool. He spent 17 years in the club’s first team, making more than 500 senior appearances for Liverpool between 1996 and 2013. During his time at Anfield, he accumulated a total of 737 appearances in a one-club career.
His achievements as a player include winning two FA Cups, three League Cups, a Uefa Cup, and a Champions League. He also earned 38 caps for England. However, the issuing of a petition does not prevent an individual from settling the outstanding debt. Hamilton highlighted that many public figures have resolved their tax liabilities after a petition was filed, leading to the withdrawal of the petition by HMRC. This withdrawal allows the individual to avoid bankruptcy and the associated restrictions.
Carragher‘s management at The Team, formerly Wasserman, was approached for comment regarding the petition.
