Tottenham Hotspur has announced the signing of Egypt international forward Omar Marmoush on an initial loan from Manchester City. The deal includes an obligation for Spurs to make the move permanent next summer.
According to reports, the obligation to buy is valued at £60m, comprising a £50m guaranteed payment and an additional £10m in add-ons. Eintracht Frankfurt, who sold Marmoush to Manchester City in January 2025, does not have a sell-on clause for this transfer, as their payment obligations from City have already been fulfilled.
Marmoush will wear the No. 22 shirt for Spurs. He joins former City teammate Savio, who completed a move to Tottenham on Tuesday.
Marmoush’s Impact and Manager’s View
Tottenham Head Coach Roberto De Zerbi expressed his belief that Marmoush’s addition will elevate the team’s attacking play. De Zerbi described Marmoush as an ambitious, hungry, and determined player with significant attacking quality, pace, and intelligence.
Marmoush shared his excitement about joining Tottenham Hotspur, stating that it feels “amazing to be here.” He highlighted the club’s stature as “one of the biggest clubs in England” and found the project presented to him very attractive. He also noted a shared passion for the game with the head coach after their discussions.
Sporting Director, Johan Lange, commented that Marmoush’s arrival is a “statement of our intent,” recognising him as a quality player capable of performing at the highest level. Lange believes Marmoush will play a major role in the club’s future ambitions.
Career Trajectory
Marmoush began his professional career with Wadi Degla in July 2016, making his debut at 17 years old. He then moved to Germany the following year to join VfL Wolfsburg, where he made his senior debut in May 2020. He had a loan spell at FC St Pauli in the latter half of the 2020/21 season.
His breakthrough in European football came during a loan spell at VfB Stuttgart, where he scored on his debut and earned the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month award for September 2021, and again in March of the following year. After returning to Wolfsburg, he made 48 appearances and scored six goals for the senior side.
In May 2023, Marmoush moved to Eintracht Frankfurt, where he scored 17 goals in all competitions. His impressive form continued, earning him the league’s Player of the Month award for September 2024 and November 2024. He made 67 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring 37 goals and providing 20 assists.
Marmoush joined Manchester City in January 2025. He made an immediate impact, scoring a hat-trick against Newcastle United in February 2025. In his debut season with City, he made 25 appearances across all competitions, scoring eight goals, and won the Premier League’s Goal of the Season award for a strike against Bournemouth in May 2025. He helped City secure the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, finishing with 16 goals in 62 appearances across all competitions for the club. He also played a key role in helping City secure Champions League qualification at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
For his national team, Marmoush netted the winner on his senior debut for Egypt in October 2021 during a World Cup qualifying fixture against Libya. He has represented Egypt at three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and featured in the World Cup this summer, accumulating 55 caps and 11 goals.
